KETTERING —

Kettering Police have arrested Wade E. Adams, 41, of Kettering for the Jan. 24 abduction and assault of a woman.

He forced his way into her car in the parking lot of Big Lots on Wilmington Pike and drove her vehicle to a nearby street. He fled the scene after the assault.

Lt. Dan Gangwer said Adams has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, three counts of gross sexual imposition, one of felony theft and one of tampering with evidence. He is being held under $500,000 bond in the Montgomery County Jail. No trial date has been set.

The arrest was made based on a positive match of DNA collected at the scene and from the victim, using swabs. Another man was arrested in January in connection to the crime but DNA did not match what was found on the victim, and he was released, according to police.

Police served a search warrant at his residence at made the arrest Feb. 12. Gangwer said some additional evidence was seized there.

Adams was not armed during the attack.

Although he has a criminal record, he has no prior history of sexual assault. DNA was collected from him in a 2007 case in Fairborn, and that helped lead to his arrest.

Police have not identified the victim, an adult female.

Gangwer said she sustained “superficial” physical injuries during the incident. She has not been hospitalized.
