Man Charged After Woman, Baby Burned

HARRISON TWP. Ohio —

Deputies in Montgomery County said a man has been captured by federal marshals in connection with burning a woman and her infant daughter.

On Monday, deputies in Harrison Township, along with firefighters, responded to a residence on Lodell Avenue after getting reports that the woman and her child had been burned.

The woman told deputies that she and her daughter were burned sitting next to a fire in the back yard of the residence. The woman also said she and her daughter were burned when one of the guests threw gasoline on the fire, deputies said.

Deputies said they were told that Jason Turk was pouring gasoline on the fire when he accidentally splashed it on the woman and her baby. They said as Turk was pouring gas on the fire, it caught the gas can on fire.

According to deputies, as Turk was unable to put the fire out, he threw the gas can over the top of the victims, which ignited the splashed gas on the woman and the baby, burning them both.

Prosecutors have approved a charge of aggravated arson against Turk.

The victim's family spoke to News Center 7 and said the incident was an accident.

The woman's husband said, "Me and wife talked about it. He did not mean to do it. He was just a little buzzed and didn't pay attention to what was around him and threw the gas can."

If convicted, Turk could serve three to 10 years in jail. The woman and her daughter were treated and released from a local hospital.
