Man found guilty in death of 4-year-old girl

PIQUA —

A Miami County man on trial for murder relating to the death his then-girlfriend’s four-year-old daughter has been found guilty.

Travis Lee Gauldin showed no reaction as he was found guilty by Judge Christopher Gee today.

According to earlier court testimony, the two older siblings of the victim, Malisa Se Le Sancha, 4, said that they initially lied to police when they said Sancha fell down a flight of stairs. The older brother and sister, ages 7 and 8, testified that Gauldin said he would kill them if they didn’t lie to police.

The siblings went on to testify that Gauldin used a lighter to burn Sancha on the foot, fingers and tongue. They said Gauldin tossed Sancha, threw her into a wall, choked her and dropped her on the floor.

Gauldin told the children to let him know when Sancha stopped breathing, which they did minutes later, according to their testimony.

Judge Gee said the siblings testimony was credible.

Gauldin will be sentenced next Tuesday. He faces 15 years to life in prison.
