DAYTON, Ohio —
The man was identified as 50-year-old Phillip Cope.
Investigators said another man told them about the Cope’s death while on his way to be booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Monday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they said the front door of the man’s apartment was unlocked and found that the carpet was wet, but there was no running water.
Police said the Cope’s body was locked inside a bathroom with a gunshot to the head. Investigators said they found his car nearby a few hours later.
Detectives said Cope was shot to death in the head. They said it appears that the shooting was a not a random attack. Police said they found drup paraphernalia inside Cope's apartment.
Investigators said they are following several leads and are searching for several people who are persons of interest in the case.
