Ian Thor Martin, 30, was arrested on suspicion of felonious assault on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.

DAYTON —

A man is in jail on a charge that he hit a teenager with a baseball bat after a New Year’s Eve party.

Bond was set Thursday at $15,000 for Ian Thor Martin, 30, of the 600 block of Pritz Avenue, Dayton, who was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of felonious assault, according to Dayton police and municipal court records.

Police said Martin used a wooden Rawlings baseball bat that has a screw sticking out of the barrel and hit a 16-year-old neighbor during a confrontation at Martin’s home.

The teen was taken to Miami Valley Hospital where he has since been released.

The confrontation occurred outside of Martin’s home after he and his girlfriend had hosted a party there on New Year’s Eve, according to the arrest report.

Martin’s girlfriend, Rachel Fritz, said her boyfriend’s actions were justified because he was trying to protect his home, family and their unborn child.

She said her home was damaged that night and has been vandalized since the incident.

“They kicked in my door … busted my window. And we tried to defend the house because our 9-month-old daughter was here,” she said. “I’m terrified to stay here. I’m afraid someone is going to try to come in and hurt me and my daughter.”

Martin is scheduled to appear Jan. 11 for a preliminary hearing in Dayton Municipal Court.
