Man sentenced in nursing home death

SPRINGFIELD —

An Enon man was sentenced today to six years in prison for setting fire in a nursing home that resulted in the death of an 89-year-old resident.

Cody Sutton accepted a plea agreement in November of last year that allowed him to admit to a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. Sutton was facing one count of murder and two counts of arson in the death of Kathleen Hart, 89.

Sutton admitted to setting a fire in a storage room at Dayspring of Miami Valley, 8001 Dayton-Springfield Road, on Nov. 25, 2011, according to records. Hart suffered a cardiac episode during the evacuation, police said. She died at Miami Valley Hospital.

Sutton faced a possible 11 years in prison.
