SPRINGFIELD —

A man was shot Sunday night while allegedly trying to rob a pizza delivery driver at gunpoint.

Lajuane M. White, 24, was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at Miami Valley Hospital, where he was taken by Careflight medical helicopter from the Domino’s restaurant at 1756 South Limestone St.

Police said White displayed a handgun as he tried to rob a Domino’s pizza delivery driver. A Domino’s worker who was off duty, 24-year-old Stephen P. Carroll, intervened in the attempted robbery and shot the suspect two times, according to the police report.

Neither White nor Carroll have conceal carry permits on file, according to Clark County sheriff’s records.

Springfield Police Chief Steve Moody said detectives are working to see if White is connected to other pizza delivery robberies that occurred Saturday night. Moody said it’s too early to say definitively that White was responsible for those robberies.

Carroll is not facing charges, but because it was a shooting the case will be presented to a grand jury in the coming weeks, Moody said.

Clark County court records show White was released from prison after serving three years from a June 2007 aggravated robbery conviction. White is currently the defendant in an ongoing court case after he was indicted in March on one count of burglary, according to court records.
