Meeting Held To Clarify Kettering Income Tax Levy

KETTERING, Ohio —

Income taxes could be increasing in the city of Kettering. The city is putting an income tax levy on the May ballot to help pay for city services.

On Friday, one of several meetings were held to help educate voters about the levy on May 2.

Former Kettering Mayor Marilu Smith and current Mayor Don Patterson talked about the income taxes.

The city wants to raise its major source of revenue from 1.75 percent to 2.25 percent. Officials said 68 percent of the money goes to the general fund to pay for police, fire and other city services.

The meetings are designed to clarify exactly what the funds will be used for and why there are needed.

There will be several more meetings in the month of April as city officials work to gain support for the tax issue that is slated for May 2.

For more information on the meeting dates and times, call the Kettering Chamber of Commerce at 299-3852.
