Miami issues crime alert after attempted theft at Alumni Hall

Miami University has issued a crime alert after a staff member reported that he caught a man attempting to steal items from Alumni Hall.

According to Miami University Police, a staff member encountered the man at 11:19 a.m. Sunday in a basement room of Alumni Hall. While asking the man why he was in the room, the staff member noticed items near the suspect that would indicate he was attempting to commit a theft, police said.

When the staff member asked the man again why he was in the room, the man fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a white male, possibly in his 40s, who is 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 with brown and graying hair. The suspect was unshaven and wearing a dark winter coat, dirty jeans and a brown and gray golf cap, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect should call MUPD at 513-529-2222.
