Miami student death investigated

OXFORD —

Oxford police and the Butler County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death of a 21-year-old Miami University student found dead in his Main Street apartment Monday morning.

Ainis “Andy” Supronas of Mason was found dead about 8:55 a.m. by police, who were asked by friends and family to check on the young man, according to Sgt. Jon Varley, Oxford police spokesman.

Supronas, 21, had not been heard from for a couple days when he placed a phone call to friend early Saturday morning, Varley said. He lived alone in an apartment in the 300 block of Main Street.

An autopsy is being performed today by the Butler County Coroner’s Office to determine cause of death. Detectives did not find any signs of foul play and are not investigating the death as a suicide.

Supronas was a software engineering student who enrolled in the fall of 2009, according to Carole Johnson, university spokeswoman. His death was announced to students Monday through the university’s internal internet.
