Moorefield Twp. Seeks Votes For New Police Force

MOOREFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Residents in Moorefield Township could soon be under the protection of a new police force.

Voters will decide May 2 on a proposed 1.5-mill property tax increase that would raise $400,000 a year for a new police department.

Moorefield Township trustees said they would be able to hire a full-time police chief and numerous part time officers to give residents 24-hour protection.

Currently, the township is protected by the Clark County Sheriff's Office, but only one deputy is assigned to the area.

If the property tax increase passes, it will cost the owner of a $100,000 home 14 cents a day, officials said.
