WARREN CO., Ohio —

A nationwide manhunt ended in Franklin Twp. today when Warren County Sheriff’s deputies apprehended an escapee out of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

Rondell Junior Reed, 52 who was being held on a charge of first degree murder in Florida, escaped with another inmate on October 24. The other inmate was captured shortly after escaping. Reed had been able to elude authorities until this morning.

About 1:50 a.m., deputies attempted to stop a suspected impaired driver on Northbound Interstate 75 near the 40 mile post, in Franklin Township. Minutes prior to Deputy Trent Barker locating the vehicle, the Warren County Communications Center had advised that the vehicle was entered stolen out of Georgia, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Barker pursued the vehicle southbound on Interstate 75 at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour. The suspect attempted to exit the interstate at State Route 63, but crashed into a pole. He was arrested without further incident, according to the sheriff’s office.

Reed is being held in the Warren County Jail. He will be arraigned on Tuesday in Franklin Municipal Court. Georgia officials were notified of Reed’s arrest.
