Forget issues. Much of Washington last week was wondering what House Speaker John Boehner said that made First Lady Michelle Obama roll her eyes at a post-inaugural address luncheon.
Video of the eye-roll quickly went viral. But Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., speaking at a Washington, D.C., luncheon late last week, said he doesn’t think he said anything to spark it.
“I didn’t say anything,” he said at a luncheon of the Ripon Society. “We had a very pleasant day all day, not one unpleasant thing was said between she and I or the president.”
At one point, though, he said, Michelle did tell Boehner that the president “wouldn’t listen to her.” Boehner’s advice to Obama? “You’d better listen to her.”
“Somebody said Schumer was at the microphone,” Boehner said, referring to Sen. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat known for his loquaciousness. “Maybe she was rolling her eyes at something Schumer had to say.”
