New Information: Dead Dogs Investigation

LOGAN CO., Ohio —

Authorities in Logan County say they are following new leads to track down the person or persons who mutilated and killed 14 dogs and left their bodies in a creek.

And now officials have confirmed that one of the dogs was shot in the head. That finding came from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where four of the dogs are undergoing necropsies.

The horrible discovery was made Monday by Humane Society employee Kyle Holcomb, who was looking for a place to fish. The creek is located in Rush Creek Township.

Officials said some of the dogs had been skinned. The dogs included several Greyhounds, Labrador Retrievers, a Pitbull, and several mixed breeds.

Joni Dailey, an agent with the Humane Society said, "This is just horrific. It's just sickening. It was very sickening."

Now authorities are trying to determine if this case is related to another dead and multilated dog found in Randolph County. That young, female dog was tortured before it was killed.

Randolph County officials are offering a $2,500 reward for any information about the case.

Dailey said this tragedy is getting national attention and believes the dogs were probably family pets. She said, "The dogs were healthy. They appeared to be at a good weight. Their nails had been trimmed. They just seemed like family pets."

The Humane Society said if you think one of the dogs could belong to you, mail or email them a picture of the dog with your contact information so they can find you if they make a positive identification.
