Northwest Ohio Community Mourns Police Chief

SIDNEY, Ohio —

The village of Holland, Ohio, which is located southwest of Toledo in Lucas County, is mourning the sudden death of its police chief, Douglas Kaiser, late Friday night in Sidney.

People who live in the village of Holland are trying to figure out why Kaiser shot himself late Friday as law enforcement officers were trying to get him stopped, and to get him some help that he apparently desperately needed.

Kaiser was described as a dedicated police officer, a wonderful human being and the father of four children.

Police in Sidney, Piqua and deputies from Miami and Shelby counties were attempting to stop Kaiser who was the subject of a BOI, which is be on the lookout. Law enforcement officers were concerned about his welfare.

Investigators said around 10:45 p.m. Friday, officers used a stop stick to flatten a tire on his SUV, prompting the chief to make good on a threat that he would kill himself if officers attempted to try and stop him.
