Not guilty plea filed in puppy mill case

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio —

The attorney for the owners of Pedigree Pets and their son filed a written plea of not guilty on behalf of the family Tuesday.

Dave, Rhonda and Adam Auton are each facing 241 counts of animal cruelty stemming from the Nov. 17 raid of the alleged puppy mill on Tawawa-Maplewood Road. During the raid deputies seized more than 200 dogs and puppies living in horrid conditions. Many of the dogs were sick, emaciated and had visible infections and sores, according to authorites.

The family is represented by Troy attorney Jose Lopez, who on Tuesday filed the written plea in the case.

All of the dogs seized are currently in foster care pending the outcome of the case, which is being held in Sidney Municipal Court.
