One Killed In House Fire In Richmond, Indiana

RICHMOND, Indiana —

Authorities said a fire tore through a Richmond home, killing the man inside.

The fire happened 10 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of Pearl Street.

The victim was identified as Warner Mitchell. His wife, Mary, was also inside when the fire started, but she managed to escape the flames.

Mary Mitchell was in the yard when firefighters arrived at the scene. They said smoke was pouring out of the second floor.

Firefighters used a ladder to get to the top floor of the house to battle the flames. They said the fire started on the first floor.

It took firefighters about an hour to bring the flames under control. Fire officials said it took about 30 minutes to find Warren Mitchell.

Investigators said the fire was caused by a burning candle, and has been ruled an accident.
