Oprah, Maya Angelou To Make Visit For Benefit

DAYTON, Ohio —

Two big stars are coming to Dayton to help raise money for a local neighborhood.

On Thursday, officials in the Wright-Dunbar Business Village announced that Oprah Winfrey and Mayo Angelou are coming to town to help raise money for Wright-Dunbar Inc.

The two stars will be coming to help children learn to read as part of a program called Read And Rise: A Tribute To Bessie Coleman. Officials said their visit will allow the Wright-Dunbar neighborhood to get the visibility and for the city to share a rich story about the legacy of the neighborhood.

Organizers said the Winfrey and Angelou are coming together with a common bond by honoring Bessie Coleman, the world’s first licensed African-American woman pilot. Executive director of the Wright-Dunbar Business Village Bootsie Neal said, “Our hope is that guests will leave the Schuster Center filled with inspiration to continue living the legacy that Coleman, Paul Lawrence Dunbar and the Wright Brothers began."

You can see both stars when they appear at the Schuster Performing Arts Center on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the benefit range from $50 to $300.

Tickets are available at the Schuster Center and the Victoria Theater box offices. You can also purchase tickets online at www.ticketcenterstage.com. Or, you can call 1-888-228-3630.

The event is sponsored by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Education and Public Improvement Foundation.
