OXFORD —

Miami University issued a campus crime alert Monday as police investigated an aggravated assault and an aggravated robbery that occurred less than five days apart.

A male Miami University student reported to Oxford Police that he was assaulted from behind by an unknown assailant at approximately 1:15 a.m. Saturday while walking alone on College Avenue in the area of Vine Street.

The victim was treated for an orbital bone fracture in his skull and released from McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, according to a police report.

As of Monday afternoon, there were no suspects. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Oxford Police at 513-524-5240.

On Nov. 6, an Oxford man allegedly was robbed at gun point while visiting a residence on Central Avenue.

Police charged Jarred Leon Hignite, 18, on Friday with complicity to aggravated burglary and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. He was transported to Butler County Jail.

The property taken during the alleged robbery belonged to a male Miami student who lived at the residence, the Oxford man told police.
