PUTNAM COUNTY, Ohio —

A freak traffic crash late Saturday night in Putnam County claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl from Rockford in Mercer County.

Brianna Coon was killed in the crash, according to troopers from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. They said her car veered of a roadway and ended up in a pond.

Troopers said Coon was driving on County Road P on a bridge over the Little Auglaize River about a mile north of Ottoville.

Coon went off the bridge and into the river shortly after 11 11 p.m.  Saturday. Troopers said she called 911 for help, but it was too late by the time emergency crews were able to find her and rescue her.

It took about two hours for troopers and deputies to find the vehicle submerged in the river.

Coon was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, Troopers do not suspect alcohol as a contributing factor in the crash.
