Pick-up truck, semi collide head-on near Sidney

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio —

A pick-up truck driver was transported to Miami Valley Hospital following a head-on collision with a semi-cab late Tuesday night, according to sheriff’s deputies in Shelby County.

The pick-up driver, Tyler Brautigan, 22, of Shelby County, suffered severe cuts to his face and legs, deputies said.

Brautigan was trapped inside the pick-up for close to an hour following the crash, which occurred near the intersection of Lindsey Road and Ohio 47, deputies said. CareFlight was called to respond, but was not able to fly due to weather.

Deputies said the pick-up truck turned right onto Ohio 47 from Lindsey and travelled into the westbound lanes of Ohio 47. The semi driver, Shawn Kinley, 50, of Summerfield, Fla., swerved to avoid hitting the pick-up, but after Brautigan corrected himself, the two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of Ohio 47, deputies said.

Kinley was not hurt in the crash.

The semi was not hauling a trailer, and a telephone pole also was snapped when the semi crashed into it.

Diesel fuel leaked onto the road after the driver’s side gas tank of the semi ruptured during the crash, deputies said.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash. Brautigam is listed in stable condition.
