Piqua-area couple face judge in pit bull attack

PIQUA, Ohio —

A couple from the Piqua area appeared in court on Tuesday and faced a judge on charges of allowing  their two pit bulls to run loose on Sept. 11, resulting in serious injuries to a Piqua woman.

Mackenzie Vangel and Brian Wilson appeared before Magistrate Gary Zuhl on two counts of harboring a dangerous or vicious dog and two counts each of failing to obtain liability insurance.

Their dogs are accused of mauling Sandra Getzendiner as she rode her bicycle across the North Main Street Bridge. She suffered severe facial and arm injuries.

If convicted as currently charged, the dog owners could face up to 18 months in prison on the felony charges and six months on the misdemeanor charges.

Wilson and Vangel continue free on their own recognizance. They will appear in court again on Oct. 4.
