Piqua man sentenced for abandoning puppies

Steven Bixley gets fined, probation and community service

PIQUA, Ohio —

A Piqua man who abandon four lab puppies roadside near Piqua on November 9, 2012  takes a plea bargain.

Steven Bixler pleads guilty to two counts of abandoning animals and two counts of animal cruelty. Two other charges of abandonment were dropped.

Municipal Court Judge Elizabeth Gutmann ordered Bixler to pay a total of $370 in fines and court costs, work 40 hours of community service, placed him on  probation for two years, and a suspended 90 days in jail.

All four puppies survived and have since been adopted into new homes, along with the mother of the dogs.
