Pit Bulls Removed From Dayton Home

DAYTON, Ohio —

Police said they went to a home on Notre Dame Avenue Monday morning to serve an eviction notice when they were greeted by two pit bulls.

The dogs were removed from the home, but the landlord showed News Center 7 the conditions that the animals were living in.

Officials with the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center were called and took the dogs to ensure their health and safety.

Sgt. Booher with Dayton Police said, “They are very territorial. We didn’t want to risk them getting out into the neighborhood. Dogs are known to attack other dogs, kids and other people.” Officers were forced to snare the two pit bulls at the home in the 200 block of Notre Dame. However, when it came time to tell the owners that they were being evicted, the dogs were the only ones there.

Ken Breitholle, who owns the property, said the dogs had been living in filth. They had been in a small room with feces piled on the floor.

He said, “I bet I will have to spend a couple thousand dollars in order to get the property rentable again.”

Officials with the Animal Resource Center said with more and more families struggling to pay their bills, they are seeing more dogs left behind.

At this time, there is no word if the seizure of the dogs will result in any criminal charges to the owners.
