Sheriff: Intruders impersonate officers

Staff Report

WAYNE COUNTY —

Police said two men who identified themselves as police officers are responsible for a Wayne County home invasion early Wednesday morning.

At 12:11 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Woodview Trailer Park in Centerville, Ind., on the report of a home invasion, according to Wayne County Sheriff Jeff Cappa. A woman told authorities she and her husband were watching television in a back bedroom while their 7-year-old twins were asleep.

The woman said they heard a loud bang on the door, and someone was shouting “police.” The two intruders then broke into the house and came into the back bedroom, Cappa said.

The victims told authorities that one of the men was wearing jeans and a T-shirt that said “police” on it. The man had a bandanna on his face, a badge and handcuffs on his belt. She also said he was also holding a small black handgun.

The woman could not offer a description of the second intruder, but said both men are stocky white males. She also said one was taller than the other.

The men directed the husband to “get them the drugs.” The suspects escaped with prescription drugs and $65 in cash.

Officials are actively searching for the suspects, Cappa said.
