By Mike Campbell

DAYTON, Ohio —

Police in Dayton said a man and a woman were arrested early Thursday morning after they were caught breaking into a pastor’s garage.

Officers said the couple was caught pushing the suspected stolen tools down an alley in east Dayton.

Pastor Larry Nichols said, “Police knocking on the door. They said someone opened the garage and helped themselves to it.”

Nichols said waking up to realize you’ve been robbed is not pleasant. “Well, I just kind of feel sad that people have to get to that spot.”

Officers arrested Jason Delgrosso and Danielle Hicks.

Officers arrested Jason Delgrosso and Danielle Hicks in an alley less that a block from where the break-in occurred Police said they caught the pair pushing both a cart filled with large stolen items and a 6-foot high chest of stolen hand tools.

According to police, a concerned neighbor called officers after spotting the unusual parade down the alley.

Sgt. George Hammann said, “They had an air compressor, and just did not look right to them.”

Police helped the pastor load the stolen tools back to his vehicle. They said this is an example of how neighborhood cooperation is stopping crime in its tracks.

Hammann said, “It just goes to show that the eyes and ears of the community are the best.”

Nichols said the accused couple is going to learn a tough life lesson. “I’ve been a pastor for 32 years in Beavercreek, and to tell you the truth, if they had come to me, I would have helped them.”

Delgrosso and Hicks are expected to face charges of breaking and entering and having criminal tools.
