Police officer struck; vehicle flees the scene

RUSSELLS POINT, Logan Co. —

Troopers are asking for help locating a vehicle that struck an on-duty Russells Point police officer while he was making a routine traffic stop Wednesday night.

Officer Jerrod Hostetler was struck by an older model 4-door tan Honda Accord after he exited his police cruiser while making a traffic stop on U.S. 33 between Ohio 708 and Clermont Avenue, troopers said.

After striking Hostetler around 6:30 p.m., the vehicle continued driving away eastbound on U.S. 33 and turned south onto Ohio 708, according to investigators.

Officer Hostetler was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine to be treated for injuries to his left forearm, where the vehicle’s right side view mirror had struck him during the crash, according to troopers. He has been released from the hospital, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or who may have been driving the car is asked to contact the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at (937)644-8811.
