MORAINE —

A high-speed pursuit ended after the suspect crashed his vehicle on Cobblegate Drive, and upon a search of the car police located a gun and drugs, police said.

Police arrested Brandon A. Hazley, 23, of Dayton, after the pursuit, which ended around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on Hazley’s vehicle, and when the officer approached the vehicle he sped off, Sgt. Mike Keegan said. Hazley led police north on Springboro Pike before turning east onto Stroop Road. After driving on Stroop he headed south on Lamme Road and then west on Alex Bell Road, before turning onto Cobblegate. Hazley ended up losing control while driving around a curve at about 50 mph, Keegan said.

The 23-year-old’s car went off the right side of the road, struck a bed of rocks, then hit a tree, before overturning, Keegan said.

Hazley was taken into custody and booked into jail on felony fleeing, Keegan said. He also was being investigated for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to police. Police also recovered a gun, heroin and marijuana in the vehicle, according to Keegan.

During the pursuit, Keegan said, the driver ran a red light and just missed striking another Moraine patrol vehicle.

Keegan warns the public, if they see a police pursuit approaching them, to pull off the side of the road to safety. Keegan also said it’s important to keep the volume of your vehicle radio down, so you can hear any oncoming police or emergency vehicles.
