RIVERSIDE —
Two men are believed to have broken into the VFW Post 657 on Spinning Road early Thursday morning and the search for the suspects is continuing, according to police.
Officers responded to the VFW, 637 Spinning Rd., around 12:45 a.m. after the manager of the business reported the burglary, Riverside Sgt. Rhett Close said.
The suspects are two men, who were wearing black hoodies, Close said.
Both of the men fled the scene by the time police arrived, but a short time later an officer in the area spotted a man that matched the description of one of the suspects and the officer began chasing him on foot, according to Close.
Police set up a perimeter near the Eastview Church of God on Burkhardt Road, where they believed the suspect was hiding and requested a K9 to search for the suspect. The search was unsuccessful, Close said.
Initial reports indicated the two men may have possibly been armed when they entered the business, however Close said that part of the case is still under investigation.
Police are not yet saying if the suspects were able to get away from the business with anything.
