Police: Traffic At Mall Seems Less This Year

MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

The recent slumping economy might have you blue, but that did not stop many shoppers from spending a lot of green on “Black Friday.”

Traditionally, “Black Friday” is the day retailers get out of the red, but some are already noticing something different.

A lot of shoppers have noticed that there is an increased amount of traffic at the malls and shopping centers. However, officers in Miami Township said it is definitely not as busy as in previous years.

The roads around the Dayton Mall have been busy all day, but as people venture out to do more shopping, the roads could get even more crowded on Friday night.

John DiPietro with Miami Township Police said traffic has been “very light this year compared to last.”

Officers have been working overtime Friday to monitor all of the traffic around the mall. They said they immediately noticed fewer cars on the road.

DiPietro said, “I think everybody don’t want to deal with the crowds and we have some Internet shopping or they’re just trying to be more thrifty this year.”

Many people decided to cut back their spending this Christmas, which has put a dent in crowded roadways, but that does not means that the shopping trip will be easy.

Tom Gannon said, “The traveling here has not been too bad. It is just trying to find a parking place at the mall.”

Some shoppers said the stores seem as crowded as ever.
