Dozens of people from across the Miami Valley stood out in the rain holding signs curbside and some of them were even standing in the middle of the street.
They yelled, "No justice, no peace" chants. Flyers were passed out to people who were not a part of the protest in hopes of educating others on the union workers' views.
The bill has undergone some changes since it was first introduced. Some changes include limiting collective bargaining rights instead of stripping them completely and outlawing union strikes. Republican Governor John Kasich has said the measure will save state dollars, but some union workers worry it may cost the state somewhere else.
"The things that they are thinking will save them a lot of money are going to put the kids at risk and that's they last thing we want to do in the state of Ohio," said Dayton Public Schools operations worker, Phil Morrow.
Senate Bill 5 was approved in the GOP controlled Senate. Hearings are expected to continue in the house where republicans also dominate. They are expected to last at least through this week and could likely go into next week before a vote.
