WHIO-TV viewer Kymberli Flory submitted this photo of snow falling in Greenville around noon Nov. 12, 2012.

Snow fell Monday afternoon in some central and western counties Monday afternoon, impacting Greenville, Celina and other Ohio cities as well as some in Indiana.

Rain that fell in the morning was tapering down by the afternoon, and colder temperatures moved in.

“The last of the rain is mixing with or even ending as light snow and will continue to push eastward, clearing the eastern part of our area around 4 or 5 p.m.,” said Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.

Temperatures in the areas with snow falling have been in the mid to upper 30s, so nothing is sticking to the ground.

Simpson said temperatures will continue to fall through the mid and lower 30s this evening, reaching the freezing mark about 10 or 11 p.m.

Roads should remain dry and free of ice.

“The breeze we have will continue to dry out roads through the evening, and also since we were so warm the last two days the road temperatures will continue to run a bit warmer than air temperatures through the night,” Simpson said.

Simpson said we will see a lot of sun the rest of the week. “That does not mean we will be warm by any means, as much colder air arriving behind this system will set up shop and sit over us the remainder of the week,” he said.

Warming will be gradual as sunshine will slightly warm the air mass the next several days. Temperatures will start tomorrow in the mid-20s and only recover to the lower 40s in the afternoon with sun all day and light winds. Wednesday starts in the mid-20s again and warms to the mid-40s with sun. Thursday will also be sunny, starting in the upper 20s and ending up in the upper 40s. Some clouds look likely Friday with temperatures starting around 30 and reaching to about 50 that afternoon. Saturday looks to be sunny with lows near freezing and highs in the low 50s. Similar conditions are expected Sunday.

“A more significant warm-up appears to be on the way next week,” Simpson said. There is a chance for some rain midweek, but more likely the end of next week.

He said there is no snow in sight after today for perhaps two more weeks.
