Rain Causing Slow Morning Commute

DAYTON, Ohio —

Rain rolled into the Miami Valley around 10 p.m Monday and pounded roads throughout the area until about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The heavy rain and slick roads created big problems for one driver heading northbound on Interstate 75 near Needmore Road.

State Trooper Jerod Keys, "Well, we had a pickup truck traveling northbound on 75 and due to weather conditions, lost control of the vehicle, began to hydroplane, struck the concrete median towards the left side of the rain."

The impact severely damaged the driver's side front of the pickup and also shredded a tire down to the rim.

Troopers said the driver did not need to go to the hospital.

Rain pounded down all across the area, making driving conditions miserable from Englewood to Butler Township to Kettering.

Most areas saw the rain completely stop 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Bob Levesque was one driver relieved by that. The Canadian citizen stopped in Dayton as he and his wife drove back home from Florida to Windsor, Ontario.

Levesque said he especially tries to avoid big rigs in the rain. "yeah, you don't get too close to them, you wait iuntil you can pass them on the left, it's ok, most of them are good drivers."

Troopers said their total number of crashes always go up when the heavy rain comes down.

They asked all drivers to slow down and leave plenty of room between yourself and the driver in front of you. .
