Pistol-wielding man robs Springfield Speedway

By Breaking News Staff

SPRINGFIELD —

A man armed with a small-caliber pistol robbed the Speedway on North Limestone Street and got away with an undetermined amount of money, according to police.

The suspect, described as a black man between 20-25 years old, entered the store around 2:10 a.m. and walked directly to the man behind the counter, police said. The dark-hoodie wearing man flashed the pistol at the clerk and demanded cash, authorities said. Police said the suspect was also wearing jeans, a bandanna covering his face, and had white tennis shoes and gloves on.

According to police, the man fled the store in a southeast direction, which was evident from footprints in the snow in the area.

The Springfield Police Division was able to obtain a copy of surveillance video from the store and detectives will continue to investigate the robbery.
