FAIRBORN —
A teacher on leave for allegedly putting duct tape around a student’s hands previously had been disciplined for anger problems.
Mathematics teacher Scott Dammeyer was put on leave Thursday from Fairborn Middle School after he allegedly became irritated with a student who was taping his hands to his desk, school officials said. Dammeyer allegedly proceeded to tape the student’s hands together using duct tape.
Dammeyer’s personnel records show he was disciplined in May 2007 for “escalating a controllable situation into one of uncontrol.” He also violated board policy and was told to ensure that students are supervised at all times.
The records indicate Dammeyer was to complete anger management training prior to the 2007-08 school year and was given a mentor.
The district is filling out paperwork to send to the Ohio Department of Education’s department of personal conduct regarding Thursday’s incident, said Fairborn superintendent Dave Scarberry.
Dammeyer is on leave pending an investigation.
