By Breaking News Staff

CLINTON COUNTY —

Two men in their 20s were killed in a Clinton County crash that knocked out power to more than 1,000 Dayton Power and Light customers, according to reports.

The one-vehicle crash was reported at about 12 a.m. on Ohio 730, near Ogden Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that 23-year-old Timothy J. Roberts, of Wilmington, was driving a red 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck. He was traveling northeast on Ohio 730 at a high rate of speed, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Roberts ran off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, a traffic sign and six trees, according to authorities. The vehicle came to rest on its side against a tree.

The passenger in the vehicle, James D. Jackson, 21, of Clarksville, also died in the crash. Both Jackson and Roberts were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither men were wearing seatbelts, according to the highway patrol. As of late Sunday morning, alcohol usage is unknown.

At about 12:20 a.m., DP&L reported more than 1,100 customers were without power in Clinton County. At 11 a.m. on Sunday, no outages were reported.

No Duke Energy customers were affected by the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
