Sex offender with ties to Springfield apprehended

A man wanted out of Texas and believed to have been hiding out in Springfield has been arrested.

Jimmy Ray McMillian was convicted in 1988 of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl. He was released from prison in 1994, and a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to register as a sex offender.

Tips led U.S. Marshals to the 200 block of North Shaffer Street in Springfield, but he had already moved out of the house.

McMillan turned himself in recently when he contacted the New Orleans Police Department and said he was a wanted sex offender out of Texas. He provided his address and was picked up by authorities and transported to the Orleans Parish Jail.

McMillan has been wanted by the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office for failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements.
