Shelby Co. Sheriff Lays Off 16

SIDNEY, Ohio —

The Shelby County Sheriff’s office has become the latest Miami Valley sheriff’s department forced trim a budget due to the poor economy and a decline in county revenues.

Most of the layoffs are corrections officer and dispatchers who will be replaced by deputies.

This will mean fewer deputies on the road, less detectives, the elimination of the Shelby County Courthouse security and no more work release program using inmates, except for the detail assigned to the city of Sidney, which pays for a portion of the salary for that deputy that supervises the crew.

The village of Houston relies on the sheriff’s office for their police protection.
