Some Businesses Hurting After GM Plant Shutdown

In March, the GM plant in Moraine laid off more than 2,000 employees. Nearly two months later some businesses are seeing fewer customers.

“This is pretty much a GM bar. We have a lot of GM customers and with them laid off they don’t come down this way,” said Stevie Lewis, a bartender at Mustang Sally’s in Moraine.

Lewis’ husband was one of the workers laid off in March. She said they’re just trying to make ends meet.

“We’re just trying to drive less, eat out less,” said Lewis.

There is no sign that the plant will open its doors again. On Wednesday GM reported a $3.25 billion net loss in the first quarter of 2008.
