Springfield Man Remains Jailed After Standoff

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

A Springfield man remains in jail after a standoff over the weekend.

Police said 28-year-old Mauricio Herrerra caused a standoff with the 1600 block of Highland Avenue on Saturday.

According to police, when officers arrived, Mauricio was beating on a van with a knife and stick, but quickly ran into a house, where his wife, 25-year-old Amanda Herrerra was at.

His wife told police that her husband was upset with her because she had visited a friend. She also told officers that he had threatened to kill her.

Authorities said a special operations team was called in. They said after 90 minutes, the team went in and took Mauricio into custody.

He faces charges of child endangering and felonious assault.
