State Trooper’s cruiser hit in West Chester

By Hannah Poturalski

WEST CHESTER TWP. —

An Ohio Highway Patrol trooper responding to a vehicle crash today had to jump out of harm’s way when her cruiser was hit by truck.

Icy roadways were a contributing factor in the crash, and a 22-year-old woman was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control of her 2005 Dodge pickup around 2:25 a.m. on northbound Interstate 75 in West Chester Twp., said Sgt. Sean Wickman of the Hamilton post.

Wickman said the incident occurred shortly after Trooper Jessica McIntyre — a 14-year veteran of the force — had responded to a one-vehicle crash on the east side of the interstate.

At the same time, Wickman said another trooper was also responding to a separate one-vehicle crash on the west side of the highway.

Wickman said motorist Sierra Dashley, 22, lost control of her Dodge truck and slid off the roadway, striking the rear of McIntyre’s cruiser.

“The trooper had just exited her vehicle and walked behind it,” Wickman said. “She jumped to safety and is without injury.”

Dashley was cited for failing to maintain reasonable control. Wickman said the police cruiser will likely be totaled.
