Police responded to a tree that fell Friday across West Elm Street in Monroe, following thunderstorms that hit the area.

Monroe —

Trees were blown down in Monroe Friday following a thunderstorm that hit area communities.

A tree fell on West Elm Street, near Main Street in Monroe, and knocked telephone lines down, according to police. The debris was cleaned up quickly, a dispatcher said.

Another tree fell on Wexford Drive and also knocked some lines down.

The dispatcher said there had been no reports of power outages, however, in either case.

Duke Energy officials had been called out to check for power outages, but as of 7:51 p.m. had no reported any outages in the area.
