Sugarcreek Township Police Issue Warning

By Becky Grimes

SUGARCREEK TWP., Ohio —

Police in Sugarcreek Township said a couple is targeting elderly people and taking their purses and wallets while they shop.

Officials released surveillance video of the pair while they were inside the Kroger store on Wilmington Pike. Police said the couple has stolen purses or wallets from five people since October, all of them elderly.

Sgt. Mark White said, "They have been in the produce isle or meat isle and while the victim is picking out groceries, our suspect approaches the victim." The other suspect takes the purse and gets out before they're detected.

White said the pair takes the stolen credit cards and goes shopping immediately. In one surveillance video, they are in Wal-Mart buying $500 worth of electronics, including a Playstation.

Police said they released the video in hopes that someone recognizes them and turns them in.
