Sunday Weather Creates Hazardous Conditions For Drivers

DAYTON, Ohio —

Sunday’s rainy, slick weather made for a messy return home for thousands of drivers traveling through the Miami Valley.

The weather caused several accidents in the Dayton area, including a four-vehicle pile-up along Interstate 75.

"The roads are wet. The lanes change. There have been several accidents at this location,” said Capt. Jeff Lykins, with the Dayton Fire Department.

Dan Hoelscher was the last car in the multi-car pile-up near the Main Street exit along northbound I-75. Authorities said it started when another driver lost control of the Jeep he was driving on wet pavement.

"I was just going with traffic and all of a sudden I just saw a car flash across the lanes sideways and of course everybody starts braking," Hoelscher said.

Fire crews said the driver swerved into the path of a tractor-trailer in the next lane.

"The semi-truck, in trying to avoid that accident, went to the left and pushed another car into the cement barrier," Lykins said.

Rescue crews had to free the people inside the car. No one was hurt in the crash.

Authorities urged drivers to slow down and be careful, especially with more wintry weather expected on Monday.

"We've got the weather near freezing now. Definitely slow down,” Lykins said.
