Suspect Identified In Springfield Homicide

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

Police in Springfield have identified a suspect in the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

Authorities said Larry Branch, 30, was shot multiple times on Monday outside an apartment in the 1800 block of Clifton Avenue.

On Tuesday a warrant for aggravated murder was issued for 25-year-old Robert Lee Davis. Police said they are urging him to surrender.

Investigators said Branch was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting that happened near a middle school and day care.

Police Chief Steve Moody said there is no indication from people on the street that the victim did anything to provoke the shooting. However, he said Davis probably has a different story.

Witnesses told police that Branch and Davis had a verbal altercation that ended with Davis producing a handgun and firing at least a dozen shots.

Authorities said Davis has family that lives in Dayton, but believe he still may be in the Springfield area.

If you have any information on Davis’ whereabouts, contact Springfield police at 324-7716.

The victim’s family has also set up a fund to help pay for funeral expenses. You can donate to the Larry Branch Mobley Fund at any Key Bank branch.
