Suspect In Custody For Weekend Beating

DAYTON, Ohio —

Police in Dayton said a 49-year-old man is in custody in connection with a violent beating that happened over the weekend.

Officers said the suspect is accused of nearly beating a man to death. Ira Fuller is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.

Fuller was arrested Sunday night on a charge of felonious assault.

The incident happened early Sunday morning at 3406 East Third Street, which is the location of a Shell gas station.

According to police reports, the victim is identified as 49-year-old Phillip Norbury. Police said the victim is homeless, and is now listed in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

Authorities said the attack happened behind the gas station. They said someone found the victim and called 911.

At this time, officers are not releasing much information about a motive for the attack.

The beating remains under investigation.
