Three Charged With Dumping Car In Lake

CELINA, Ohio —

Three Celina men are facing charges in connection with a car that was stolen from Roberts Town Tavern on Saturday evening in Celina in Mercer County.

The 1995 Pontiac was owned by John Gray of Celina. It was taken from the rear of the bar at approximately 7:50 p.m.

Before the owner discovered the theft the Celina Police Department received a call of a car going into the lake at the boat ramp located on Lakeshore Drive.

Upon responding to the scene it was determined that the car was the one that was taken from the bar. No one was in the vehicle when it entered the water.

Witnesses in the area described how a subject drove the car up to the boat ramp, got out and then allowed the unoccupied car to roll on into the water.

The suspect then ran to a waiting vehicle with two other male subjects in it, and left the area, eastbound on Lakeshore Drive.

Witnesses were able to obtain a registration from the vehicle leaving the scene. Officers tracked down the car at the owner’s home on Touvelle Street, a short time later and two suspects were taken into custody.

Both subjects were charged with obstructing official business and incarcerated in the Mercer County Jail. The suspects were Edwin Lovelace, 58, and Alfred Ted Maxwell, 53, both of Celina.

A third suspect also faces charges in connection with the car being taken. His name is being withheld, pending the filing a formal charges. The case has been turned over to the Mercer County Prosecutor for review.

The vehicle was pulled from the lake shortly after the report was received. It had been valued at $1500, but is considered to be a total loss.
