TIPP CITY —

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday for Ellen Marie Garner, a University of Cincinnati student who died Jan. 14 after being injured in an off-campus fire on New Year’s Day.

The services will be held at Ginghamsburg Church, 6759 S. County Road 25A.

Pastor Bonita Wood will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery at Evanston Road and Hyatt Street

There will be visitation for family and friends from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, is handling arrangements.

Contributions to a fund in Ellen’s memory can be made to the Tipp City United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Rodney and Ann Garner of Tipp City, Ellen was born in Troy. The family also includes her older brother, Air Force Second Lt. Ben Garner.

A fashion design major at UC who learned to sew as a member of 4-H, she studied with Sherri Flock of Tipp City while attending Tippecanoe High School, where she graduated in 2010 after also playing in the marching band.

She worked as a co-op student during the summer of 2012 at Garan Inc. in New York City and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at UC.

The Cincinnati fire also claimed the life of Ellen’s friend Chad Kohls, 21, of Centerville.
