Traffic Crash Near Piqua Kills Pregnant Woman

MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio —

A driver lost control of his car on a curve near Piqua Thursday evening and was struck broadside by an oncoming car. The crash killed Amber Detrick, 18, Piqua, who deputies confirmed was three months pregnant.

The crash happened on County Road 25-A at Troy-Sidney Road in Miami County, not far from the Shelby County line. The time was 7:30 p.m.

Sheriff Charles Cox said the car that caused the crash "was traveling at an excess speed," crossed the center and was hit by another car broadside.

Detrick was dead at the scene. The driver of the car she was riding in, Blake Hughes, 17, Sidney was flown aboard CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton where he is listed in stable condition.

The driver of the other car, Amanda Brinkman, 24, Sidney, was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center near Troy for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
