Traffic Stop Leads To Seizure Of Drugs, Gun, Cash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Indiana —

Indiana State Police said that two men have been arrested during a traffic stop in Franklin County, Indiana.

Authorities said around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday Trooper Stephen Sexton was patrolling in a rural area of the county when he got behind a green Oldsmobile that was driving erratically.

Sexton said he stopped the vehicle just east of Lakeshore Resorts on Fairfield Causeway Road, and found the driver, Matthew S. Hayes, 22, of Hamilton, Ohio, to be intoxicated. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail, where he was charged with OVI and public intoxication.

Investigators said Hayes was later charged with carrying a handgun without a permit, after a search of the vehicle turned up a handgun. His bond was set at $5,000.

State Police said Trooper Barry Bischoff and his K9 unit were called to the scene to do an inventory search of the vehicle before it was towed. Bischoff said his dog alerted on the vehicle and a bag containing about 120 pills were found.

At this time, a passenger in the car, Jacob Bowman, 22, of Hamilton, was arrested and charged with dealing a controlled substance, possession of a control substance and possession of a switchblade knife. His bond was set at $15,000.

Investigators said more than $5,000 in cash was also found in the vehicle.
